| The “Prison Liaison Project” is a community-based project which aims to ensure that resettlement staff who have responsibility for Liverpool prisoners, have access to information and advice on services available in Liverpool.
The project works with both men and women and takes referrals to seek out accommodation and/or support packages for any prisoner returning to Liverpool and who was sentenced to 12 months or less. Prisoners can also self-refer. Information will also be provided where sentences are longer.
The prisoner will be kept informed of progress along the way and feedback will be given to the prison on where the person was placed and the support arranged. The package will be put together following a careful needs analysis, to ensure that the provision in each package is specific to the individual. It should be noted that packages may be for accommodation and support or, where appropriate, for accommodation only, or support only.
The project has many local connections with housing providers, housing benefits and support services across the full range of need. As a result of this, it can on occasions be possible to find appropriate accommodation and support for cases where the usual avenues are closed.
The project has a comprehensive database of accommodation and services in Liverpool, the content of which is available to any resettlement worker, working in any prison, with any prisoner returning to Liverpool, regardless of length of sentence. Access to this information is by phone, fax and email on the contact details given below. A website is under construction and the database will also be available on line in due course.
If you work in resettlement and you would like further information, please contact us to discuss the way forward.
